You’re ready to embark on your next travel adventure. You need to book hotels, determine which tours are right for you, find a restaurant for that special dinner. So much information for a location you may know very little about. How do you sort through it all? How do you know that a tour company’s website is an honest presentation of what it has to offer? How do you make sure you don’t book the local flea-bag motel? How are you to find an objective opinion?
Booking your own trip plans can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be when you have TripAdvisor on your side. Hotels, restaurants, travel services, tour companies, and other travel websites aren’t going to say anything negative about their properties or services. Their goal is to bring you in – not scare you off. That’s where TripAdvisor can save the day. Perhaps even the whole trip!
What is TripAdvisor?
TripAdisor is a worldwide community of travelers like you and me, providing extensive reviews, advice and opinions on just about everything to do with travel planning – from hotels, restaurants, resorts, flights, vacation rentals, vacation packages, travel guides, tour operations, and so much more. TripAdvisor provides more than 75 million reviews and opinions from real travelers to date – and counting! I added ten more of my own reviews just last week!
TripAdvisor reviews are honest, objective, and on the mark. They aren’t from hotel owners. Or tour service owners. These reviews are from people like you and me, providing feedback to help fellow travelers make educated decisions about their travel plans, and helping ensure that long anticipated trip goes off as smoothly as possible.
Where in the world is TripAdvisor?
Seems like it’s everywhere! As the world’s largest travel site, TripAdvisor is with you to some of the farthest reaching destinations in the world. It currently operates in over 30 countries, including China, but you do need to know how to read Chinese (simplified Han) if you’re gonna use the TripAdvisor China site! Now that’s world-wide coverage!
How does TripAdvisor help you plan your trips?
You read the review – and decide for yourself what works, or not works, about a specific property, tour package, or whatever it is you are reading about. A hotel may be rated by most people as a 5-star accommodation, but if you read it lacks something integral to your specific travel plans, move on. That’s the beauty of TripAdvisor reviews. You find exactly what you want, what you need. One person’s 5-star destination might just be your personal nightmare.
Here’s a visual example of what a TripAdvisor review will look like:
Got a travel question? Ask away!
Still uncertain? Still have questions about a property, or a tour, that the reviews haven’t answered? Ask away! You can post questions to the general TripAdvisor population via the Forum, but even better, you can post questions to the people that have been there. Real live people. Really. Ok, sometimes they may not answer you back, but by and large, the TripAdvisor community is more than willing to provide you with personal, destination-specific advice. How do I know? Because I have asked questions of other members about places I have considered – they have always answered back, and with some of the most helpful trip information I could have received. And I always respond back to questions directed at my reviews.
As mentioned earlier, TripAdvisor is a community of travelers who are dedicated to getting the word out about the world. You can ask TripAdvisor members questions about where you are going, what the weather is like, where they would recommend to eat. And quite honestly, many of us are flattered that you read our review and are therefore just gushing with information to share with you.
Be sure to share your trip reviews!
TripAdvisor is where it is now in part because of travelers like you and me. So go on, share with everyone the good – and the bad – about that last trip. We really do want to know. TripAdvisor makes it easy to share your experiences. Just follow the “Write a Review” instructions that accompany the location you want to review. And please remember to be objective, truthful and honest.
How much does all this travel information cost?
Nothing, nada, nix, nichst. No matter how you say, it still comes out as nothing. Yep, you get all this great information for free! You don’t even need to register to access one of the most trusted review sites in the world. To take full advantage of all that TripAdvisor has to offer, though, you might just want to sign up. Again – it’s free.
TripAdvisor On the Go!
Take all that valuable information with you. The TripAdvisor App is available for several mobile platforms, including, iPhone, Android, Nokia and Windows devices, as well as for iPad and Android tablets.
TripAdvisor is so much more that “just” reviews
But wait – TripAdvisor doesn’t just provide some of the world’s most comprehensive reviews about “all things travel.” You can also book your plans right from TripAdvisor. The easy-to-use online booking links make it so seamless to go from “reviewed and approved” to “booked.” Here’s a sampling of additional trip planning details you can complete via TripAdvisor.
- Find – and book – that ideal hotel.
- Vacation rentals – search great getaway homes and go from “found” to “booked.”
- Check thousands of possible flight itineraries with Flight Search, which finds the lowest fares more often than other online flight-finder sites.
- Download full-color travel guides that include other travelers’ advice on where to stay, eat and play.
TripAdvisor also manages and operates nineteen other travel brand sites – several of which you might already know! Several of them I have already blogged about. Several I have not – but will be soon!
So yes, TripAdvisor really is so much more than “simply” a review site.
