San Cristobal Island. It’s where you will find a sense of calm and tranquility. Pass adventurous days snorkeling, hiking and biking. And encounter probably the most friendly sea lions you’ll ever meet!
So come along with me and meet some of San Cristobal Island’s most charismatic residents. Get ready to enter into a world like no other. Step into a sea lion’s paradise!
San Cristobal Island – A Sea Lion’s Paradise
From the minute one arrives on San Cristobal Island, it quickly becomes apparent that this island is truly some place special, a destination unique in many ways.
Perhaps your first indication that this is going to be a different kind of adventure, is the sentinel figure majestically posing upon an ocean rock. Watch him slide back into the water with a quick slap of his flippers as your boat glides past.
Maybe it’s the local fishing boat anchored in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno’s harbor, with it’s furry interloper basking in the sunshine on it’s deck. As your boat pulls into the harbor, search the docked boats for more of these not always welcome sea-faring locals as they nap away the afternoon as uninvited boat guests.
Or it just might be that harbor bench you walk past after disembarking from your boat. Take note! You’ll most likely have to share benches throughout the waterfront with a few snoozing locals. Yes indeed, San Cristobal Island and it’s charismatic and oh-so friendly colony of sea lions are something unique, and definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Behold These Captivating Residents Of San Cristobal
Here, there, everywhere, reside the sea lions of San Cristobal Island. And that, my friends, might just be one of the most amazing experiences of your life! Walk alongside these charismatic creatures as they meander down the road, or gracefully pose upon oceanfront rocks, seemingly just for your camera.
Morning, noon, and night, you are sure to have close encounters with several of these captivating creatures. As you wake up in the morning and gaze out upon the glorious beginnings of the day, the sea lions are there with you, greeting the morning with a bark to eachother, or a playful romp across the boat dock. Watch as they too begin their day ambling about the streets of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno.
As you head back into town after a morning full of adventure, looking forward to some rest and relaxation, so too are the neighborhood sea lions. Look closely as you walk past the oceanfront playground. You might just find a sea lion on his own adventure, taking a ride down the local slide. Or enjoying his own version of rest and relaxation, quite possibly in that very same slide!
Enjoy an evening stroll through Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. Just watch where you walk, because you’ll probably encounter several sea lions out for a similar evening stroll. And if you happen past that same slide this evening, take a peak inside. There’s probably a sleepy sea lion or two making the slide it’s night-time home.
Who knows what sea lion encounters await you on San Cristobal Island. You may bump into a sea lion pup out for a stroll, or a juvenile sun bathing at the ocean’s edge. Oh, those sea lion pups. So full of curiosity. They might just entice you into a game of chase! Or at least follow you down the road, their curiosity piqued about these two legged creatures walking by. Unafraid, these sea lions appear to be.
Farewell Our Friendly Galapagos Sea Lions!
One of the fondest memories of our Galapagos Islands adventures was the sea lions of San Cristobal. Where else will you share a park bench with a napping sea lion? Or find yourself involved in a comical game of chase with an engaging sea lion pup?
