Are you planning a spring or summer vacation that includes air travel? Have you booked your flights yet? Yeah, I know, you’re thinking, isn’t it a little too early to be thinking about summer travel plans? Too late to score an airfare deal for a Spring fling?
Absolutely not! One never knows when an airfare deal might just pop up. And as a family of four travelers, finding the best possible airfare is tantamount to our travel plans. I need to find the best possible airfare I can so we can afford our next family vacation.
So what do I do? How do I score airfare deals? My process, much like the technology I use, has evolved over the years. I’ve been known to over-analyze flight options, to search high and low across multiple airfare booking sites, run queries about “best priced destinations.” I’ve even re-routed our travel plans to take advantage of lower airfare offers at different airports. Through it all, I have found five websites that I always refer to.
Read on, my friend, and you too might just score yourself some airfare deals!
My Favorite AirFare Deal Finding Websites
Finding the best possible airfare doesn’t have to be complicated. These five sites have become my go-to airfare search sites whenever I think about booking air travel. These are the sites I use to determine who has the best airfare for my preferred destinations. These are the sites that have simplified my way overly complicated airfare search process.
I love Hipmunk! It provides you with an easy to read snapshot of flight options and prices for your destinations. It also provides you with an agony score to help you narrow down the best flights for your trip. Set up destination alerts and Hipmunk keeps you posted on airfare price changes. Once I identify a tentative travel plan, I set up Airfare Watchdog price alerts. The Watchdog then sends me notifications per my alert profile. Does it work? Absolutely! In January I set up alerts for our preferred summer destination. Last week, I was alerted to a significant airfare drop. Score the deal! I bought four tickets for less than half the price they’d been the last several months. And now? The price is back up, more than double what I paid. That sale was a three-day “blip” in the price. I use Kayak to see what’s going on in the airfare world. It simplifies price searches by including Priceline, Travelocity, Expedia, Hotwire and the airlines themselves, all in one query, saving you valuable search time. Use the fare trend charts to help decide whether to book now or hold. I have never booked a flight through Kayak, though. I typically “jump” on over to the airline as I prefer to book directly with them.
I’ve just recently added SkyScanner to my airline price search tools. Liking it so far. Skyscanner compares over 1000 airlines to find the lowest priced airfares out there. Again, saving you not just money, but time too.
Your Preferred Airline
Sign up to receive your preferred airline’s deal alerts. Follow them on Twitter and Like them on Facebook. You never know what, when or where a deal might come your way. Airline deals might not be available without these links, or might already be booked by the time you get an Airfare Watchdog or Hipmunk alert. That’s because the airline’s deal followers have already received and acted upon those deals!
So there you have it. My now much simpler way of finding my next air fare deal.
