There’s no doubt that today’s cell phone and tablet cameras have become powerful photographic devices for travelers the world over. No matter where one travels, there always seems to be someone nearby capturing the world around them through the photographic eye of a cell phone camera.
However, there are limitations to what that cell phone or tablet camera can accomplish on it’s own. Add a few dedicated photography apps to that cell phone, though, and you can amp up your travel photography skills to a whole new level!
But which app? There are so many to chose from. No problem! Here are my family’s nine favorite travel photography apps to get you started. Even if you don’t travel, each one is still a worthy photography app for day-to-day mobile device photographic needs.
Apps For Capturing Fun Photographic Images
Travel and photography. Synonymous with good times and memorable moments recorded in pixelated imagery. These three apps are perfect compliments to that cell phone camera, enabling you to capture those special travel moments from a different perspective, so you can relive them long after the trip has ended.
Photo Sphere Camera
Record incredible 360 degree panoramic images of your surrounding world with Google’s Photo Sphere app. Photo Sphere can capture that memorable moment from all different perspectives – up, down and all around. Saved panoramic masterpieces are easily shared with friends and family, so they too can enjoy the view. You can even share with Google Maps for all the world to see.
Microsoft’s Photosynth is another easy-to-use, powerful 360 degree panorama photo app. To capture the whole world around you, simply press the start button to begin recording, from high above, to the ground beneath your feet. Then share that memorable panoramic vista with friends and family back home, or post it to Bing Maps to share with the world.
Photosynth is available for Apple devices and Windows Phone.
Selfies more your photographic style? Then CamMe is for you! With a simple flick of your hand, selfies can be shot from as far away as 16 feet away. Just open the app, position your mobile device, then get ready for that fab selfie. All set? Raise your hand, make a fist, and smile for the camera. Your selfie is done. No excuses now for a group family selfie!
CamMe is available for Apple devices.
Apps For On-The-Go Photo Editing
Including a photo editing app or two on your mobile device sure can come in handy for those on-the-go photo editing needs! These three apps are perfect for on-the-go basic photo editing as well as for channelling your inner photo-artist. And when finished, each one easily shares your funked up photographic creations.
Take your favorite photos up to a level of photo-excellence with Snapseed. From basic photo editing to getting creative with filters and enhancements, SnapSeed transforms your favorite photos into creative imagery. BeFunky Photo Editor & Collage Maker
Funk it up with BeFunky. Loaded with lots of cool filters and awesome easy-to-use photo editing features, BeFunky quickly and easily edits and enhances your photos to perfection. Once you’ve perfected your photos, frame them or create cool collages, complete with backdrop, text and stickers. All finished? Share your digital perfection with the world!
Ready to channel your inner artistic side? Then Photoblend is for you! Blend photos and images together to create a cool double-exposure effect. Add titles and text, then drop it all into a digital photo frame. Photoblend also allows you to add digital stickers to your photos, like peace signs, trees, birds and more. Once that photo masterpiece is complete, share it on Instagram, Facebook and Flickr, right from the app.
Photoblend is available for Apple devices. In-app purchases may be required for some special effects.
Apps for Photo Sharing Fun and Safe Storage
Photos taken and images tweaked. Now what? Share them with family, friends, or with the world! Here are three apps ready and waiting to share your photographic inspirations.
With fun filters and easy sharing of photographic masterpieces, it’s no wonder Instagram makes the grade as a favorite travel photography app the world over. Just take that photo, adjust it using one of the Instagram filters, tweak it, and that’s it! Your photo masterpiece is ready to share. So go on. Let others see through world through your eyes!
Captured that perfect family photo beneath the setting sun? Share it with family and friends via Postagram. Create personalized postcards from your prized photos, then send them practically anywhere in the world. Postagram partners well with those Instagram masterpieces you’ve been creating along your travels. It’s easy, and it’s fun!
Need a better way to keep your photos safe, as well as share them? Get the Dropbox app, a free cloud storage service. With Dropbox on your mobile device, it’s easy to upload and off load photos when valuable device storage space is at a premium. And, you can share photos too. It’s a two-fer deal with Dropbox – save and share all in one app!
Travelers Tip: Backing up travel photos and videos on-the-go with Dropbox is a smart choice. First, your precious travel photos are stored in the cloud, keeping them safe just in case your phone goes for an unexpected swim. Cloud service backup has other benefits as well. You have convenient access to your photos from practically anywhere. And sharing images via a cloud service is as easy as sending a link to whomever you want to share the images with.
What Are Your Favorite Travel Photography Apps?
These are my family’s go-to travel photo apps. I love the panoramic apps and the ability to keep my photos safe “just in case.” My boys love “getting creative” with selfies and afterwards, the ability to be even more creative with photo editing apps. Photography apps are also great for passing time on long car drives and during down time in hotel rooms.
How about you? Do you travel with a plethora of photography apps? Or do you have a select favorite few? What are your favorite travel photography apps? Do share! I’m heading out on vacation shortly and would love to know what others enjoy using.
