Happy Blogiversary to Lets Get Deals Today! Yep, it’s been one year this week since the launch of Lets Get Deals Today.
How It All Began
It all started so innocently with a guest post for my dear friend, Carolyn Mohr, at The Wonder of Tech. Just a simple explanation of how much fun geocaching can be, with the post, Geocaching: Your Real Life Treasure Hunt! I wasn’t sure it would be “worth her time” to take on a rookie like me. I wasn’t even sure I wanted to blog! I just knew that every time I mentioned geocaching to someone, it always lead to more questions, and the desire to learn more about it. So I wrote an explanation to share with the Wonder of Tech readers. Much to my surprise, that post was a hit!
So yes, I have Carolyn to thank for giving me the proverbial “push off the cliff” to start writing my own blog. Who knew that this one geocaching post would lead me to where I am today? Who knew this engineer turned project manager would turn to blogging for her next challenge?
And what a year it’s been! I initially wrote about deals – how to find them, technology to access them, tips to maximize them. It’s something I’ve been doing for family and friends for years. Soon I wanted more for my blog. Something new to intrigue and interest readers. The time had come to take this blog to another level! What would that new “something” be?
Let’s Get Deals Today Goes A’Traveling!
Yep, you guessed it – my blog morphed from writing about deals to also include travel, another area I am passionate about. Traveling, and saving money while traveling.
In March 2012 I launched my first official travel post, Seat Yourself With Seat Guru. Much like my first ever Let’s Get Deals Today post, my foray into travel blogging was the result of writing another guest post, this time for Lesley Carter’s Bucket List Publications. This post, Get Unplugged In Costa Rica. was my first full-feature travel article, showcasing our family’s travels to a most unique place in Costa Rica. Again, a hit! The time had come to get a’writing more about travel at this blog.

And that’s not all! I recently added a new category – Family. Four posts written and more to come. Watch this category grow too, with an emphasis on family travel and family adventures.
A Walk Down Memory Lane – A Few Posts Worth Mentioning Again
What posts are my favorites? Well, like kids, it’s very hard to pick one over another. Each post has a purpose, and I’d like to think each post delivers helpful information. Though of course, I do have a few standouts!
Most “fun to write” post:
A Family Dog Sledding Adventure – Why? Because dog sledding was just so much fun to do. It was a blast revisiting our adventure while writing this post.
Most helpful post:
Save More With Mr. Rebates! Ohhh it was so tough picking just one! I like to think all my posts are helpful. But in the end, I chose the Mr. Rebates post because it’s just so easy to get money back when shopping online through Mr. Rebates.
Ok, I can’t resist – here’s an honorable mention: Please Retail-Me-Not! You gotta have a site to find money saving coupons, and Retail Me Not delivers. I refer to it all the time.
Most controversial post:
Is TripAdvisor Your Virtual Travel Agent? My intent never was for this post to be controversial, but to some readers, it was.
Most talked about post:
Got Wine? WTSO! and Is TripAdvisor Your Virtual Travel Agent? Pretty much a dead heat between these two. Guess that’s because one was very popular and the other had unintended controversy.
A post that didn’t get the attention it deserved:
Get A Target REDCard and Supercharge Your Purchases. Who doesn’t want 5% cash back? But I was surprised with the lack of reader interest with this post. Thought for sure it would be a big hit – so much so that I wrote about it twice. Oh well.
Most “proud of” post:
Hello World! Let’s Get Shopping and Save! Ok, it doesn’t seem like my first Let’s Get Deals Today post should be the one I am most proud of. Honestly, it isn’t one of my best written posts, nor was it visited often. In fact, it was hardly visited at all! So why “most proud of”? Because this post represents my “jumping off the cliff” and taking the courage to create – and continue with – a blog for the whole world to see. This was a huge undertaking for me on many levels, but that discussion is for another time. Suffice it to say, yes, this post represents so much more than “just” starting a blog to me.
And the grand finale – drum roll please!
Most popular post:
Hands down, it was Got Wine? WTSO! I guess we love our wine, and we especially love to buy it for less.
Where am I going in year two? Onward and upwards, of course! More deals, more travel, more family adventure. That’s what this blog is all about, right?
Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to stop by and check out Lets Get Deals Today. Stick around for more to come.
