Are you like me? Before eBooks and eReaders, you were filling your bookshelves with much loved novels, novels that you might one day read again.
And like me, have you wished you could now read some of those printed books as eBooks, but rebuying them in eBook format is hard to justify when you already own the printed versions? Well, I think the Amazon genies have heard our wishes! Meet Kindle MatchBook.
What is Kindle MatchBook?
Kindle Matchbook is Amazon’s answer to having your cake – and eating it too. Except with Amazon, it’s having a printed book – and the eBook version too, without having to pay full Kindle eBook prices for that eBook.
Here’s how it works. Say you bought a printed book through Amazon several years ago, before the arrival of eBooks and the Kindle eReader. You know, one of those books where you actually have to turn the pages?
That printed book became an all-time favorite read, one that you’ve kept on your bookshelf to one day read again. Except now, you want to read that much loved treasure on your Kindle. But you already own it in printed form. Oh the dilemma – should you rebuy that treasured tome as an eBook, probably paying full Kindle price for it?What if you don’t have to pay full Kindle price? You might not have to with Amazon’s new Kindle Matchbook program. Through Kindle MatchBook, select printed books that you previously purchased at Amazon may now be purchased as eBooks at seriously discounted prices of $2.99, $1.99, $0.99, or even free! And who doesn’t like free.
Kindle MatchBook has over 70,000 titles currently available at the significantly lower prices. If your previously purchased printed book is included in that 70,000+ list, you can now purchase it’s Kindle eBook version for much less than the full Kindle eBook price.
So yes, you really can have your printed book, and your eBook too!
But I Don’t Have A Kindle!
No Kindle? No problem! The Amazon Kindle isn’t the only device from which you can read Kindle eBooks. Do you have a computer, a smart phone or a tablet? If you do, then you can read Kindle eBooks.
Just download the free Kindle Reading App for your particular device, and you are ready to read that Kindle eBook.

You can also search the Kindle MatchBook listing for a complete listing of printed books that qualify for Kindle MatchBook pricing.
Didn’t find a Match? Amazon is continuously adding new titles to Kindle MatchBook, so if you don’t see last week’s paperback purchase on Matchbook this week, check back next month. It might just be available then.
Do New Book Purchases Have Matchbook Pricing?
Quite possibly. Kindle MatchBook isn’t just for those older purchases. Many new printed book purchases also qualify for the substantially reduced Kindle Matchbook prices.
Check for the Kindle MatchBook identification in the book description, identifying the printed book as a qualifying MatchBook, and for what price.
What Do You Think of Kindle MatchBook?
I am a conflicted reader. Sometimes I want a printed book. Other times I prefer my eReader. Thus the Kindle MatchBook option works for me. My one complaint? Not enough titles! I will be watching Kindle MatchBook hoping that some of my recent printed book purchases become available as MatchBook eBooks.
