Series – Belize Family Adventures 2015
Welcome to Mystic River Resort, your Belizean home away from home! Perched high above the Macal River, Mystic River Resort is the ideal combination of jungle vibe and luxury lodge.
This eco-friendly jungle resort is ready for all kinds of Belize adventures. Are you? Come along for a photo journey through the lands of Mystic River Resort, near San Ignacio, Belize and see for yourself. Explore my seven favorite reasons to love this little gem of a jungle lodge.
1. The 360 Degree Views
Step outside your comfy Mystic River cabin and step into the serenity of this one of a kind jungle lodge. Find yourself surrounded by expansive vistas of nearby rain forest and river, not another house, not a single road, blocking your views.
Stroll inland for stunning panoramic glimpses of the surrounding lands. Gaze upon the lush greenery of farm pastures down below, and majestic mountains high above.
Meander along the steep banks above the Macal River, its waters gently flowing past down below, jungle growth clinging to its banks. Everywhere your gaze takes you, there’s an amazing jungle vista just waiting to be seen.
2. The Hiking Opportunities
Mystic River Resort sits on nearly 200 acres of jungle lands that includes Maya ruins, a stand of mahogany trees, and the Macal River. And just outside your cabin door are several miles of well-marked trails just begging you to get out and experience each one.
So grab a hiking stick from the lodge and head on up the trail, where gorgeous vistas of distant mountain pine ridges and verdant green valleys down below await your arrival.
Trek along trails through dense tropical forests that open onto vistas of the Maya Mountains. Meander past exotic plants, birds chirping high above in the towering trees. So peaceful! It’s just you and the surrounding wilderness.
3. The Mayan History Connection
These lands were once home to the ancient Mayan people. They traveled along these paths, built their cities beneath these jungle canopies, lived their lives amidst these valleys.
Look closely and you might just see evidence of these ancient inhabitants. A pottery shard here. A burial mound there. A well-trodden trail leading up a ridge. Who knows what you might see when your eyes are wide open!
Ask at the lodge for directions to the trail leading up to a special lookout point. Here you’ll find an ancient Maya mound and burial site, as well as other evidence of early Maya inhabitation of these lands.
4. The Refreshing Macal River
Been a long day filled with adventures? Perhaps it’s time to slow it down a little, and the banks of the Macal River are just the place to accomplish that. Best of all, the river is only a short walk away from your Mystic Resort cabin.
Grab a tube, kayak or canoe on your way down for a refreshing, reenergizing time on the river. Whether your adventure is as slow and simple as a relaxing tube float on the river, or fast and full of action as a canoe trip into to town, it’s all waiting just beyond your cabin door.
Wade on out into the refreshing water. Cool down. Let your day float away along with the river. Or grab a canoe and paddle your day away. Either way, an afternoon along the river makes for a great ending to an adventurous day.
5. The Tasty Cuisine
Hungry? Ready for a yummy meal? Then you won’t be disappointed at the Mystic River dinner table, where you’ll enjoy tasty home-cooked meals created from locally grown foods. From Thai cuisine to local Latin American fare, there’s sure to be a flavor to your liking. Hope you brought your appetite!
And you just never know who you will be dining with! It might even be a flock of toucans, feasting upon the same fruits you too are having for breakfast. Oh, and the amazing views that surround your meal. Mystic River’s restaurant is the ideal spot to sit back and soak in your jungle surroundings. Because that’s how things roll here in the jungle.
6. The Surrounding Serenity & Peacefulness
It’s been a day filled with adventurous experiences, a day filled with fun. Now, it’s time to unwind, to relax and simply enjoy the serenity and solitude that permeates the grounds of Mystic River Resort.
Go for a peaceful stroll past the resort gardens. Contemplate your day at the Lilly Pool. Be pampered with a spa massage. Stretch away the day on the yoga platform. Or simply get comfy in a river-side hammock and settle in for some well deserved rest and relaxation!
7. The Wonderful Mystic River Owners & Staff
Last, but certainly not least, Mystic River Resort is special largely because of its wonderful owners, guides and staff. Ask, and they will help, whether it’s ensuring your off-property adventures are spot on or helping your clothes get dry from a wet afternoon on the river.
From coordinating adventures far and wide, to ensuring your cabin is as comfortable as can be, Mystic River Resort and it’s people will spoil you forever! Don’t be surprised if they go above and beyond to ensure your stay is incredible. In fact, it is quite the norm here.
